We may throw the dice, but the LORD determines how they fall. Proverbs 16:33
Meditate. Consider God’s influence in your choices
| Rolling dice or casting lots. Is this your lucky day? No luck needed with the Lord. |
Casting lots, similar to rolling dice occurs several times throughout the Bible. Most remarkably, I think, is when the Roman soldiers cast lots for Jesus’ garment rolling dice at the foot of Jesus’ cross.
Jesus said, "Father, forgive
them, for they don't know what they are doing." And the soldiers gambled
for his clothes by throwing dice. Luke
23:34
They cast
lots during a storm when Jonah was running away from God. The lot fell to him
and he was thrown overboard. Read about that in the book of Jonah.
Personally,
I am not much of a gambler. I was told early on, I think by my Grandmother,
that gambling is like coveting—wanting something that is not yours. Thus, keeping
the Ten Commandments includes not gambling. Thou shall not covet anything that
belongs to your neighbor…to anyone. I
don’t want to intentionally break any of the commandments. How about you?
Solomon wisely wrote that we can
throw dice, but it is God who decides how they fall. It is not luck or skill.
Some people attribute luck to satanic activities. We are blessed, not lucky,
when we are associated with the Lord. Do you feel like it is a lucky day when
lots of things are going right for you? Consider yourself blessed on that day.
Prayer
– Lord Jesus, help me to see You working in my life. I am blessed, not lucky.
