Have You Ever Felt Helpless?

Helpless tire.
Have you ever felt like that tire?
Blown out and useless?
Jesus is the answer.
When was the last time you felt helpless—totally helpless? For me, I think it was when a tire blew out on our truck when I was driving. I felt helpless and hopeless since we were in the middle of nowhere and on a busy highway. It wasn’t a spiritual hopelessness, but it was beyond my ability to solve the problem. I prayed that God would help us get help…and He did. It took a while, but we got off that highway before dark. That was good!

Paul writes that when we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. He literally died for all mankind since everyone has sinned—we are all sinners. Only Christ Himself is sinless. That’s what made Him the perfect and only selection for the sacrifice for man’s sin. His sacrifice made us “acceptable” in God’s eyes. Cleaned us up—and purified us. Only the pure can stand before God.

God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God. Matthew 5:8

Next time you are feeling unworthy or helpless, thank God for allowing Jesus to go to the cross for you…and for each of us. Thank Jesus for the sacrifice He made. We aren’t worthy…just forgiven when we ask for that.

When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God's sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God's condemnation. Romans 5:6-9

Prayer – Lord Jesus, forgive me for the sins I’ve committed…yesterday and today. Some of them may have been just sins of omission—things I should have done and didn’t do. Others are mistakes I willfully made—decisions that weren’t wise and that may have harmed or withheld love from others. You taught us to love God and love others. Help me to do that. I am utterly helpless without Your help.

Meditate. Think about helplessness.

Verse of Salvation ~ Help us, O God of our salvation! Help us for the glory of your name. Save us and forgive our sins for the honor of your name. Psalm 79:9
