Are You Grumbling or Complaining?

Prayer – Lord—You are the Judge. I’m patiently—well sort of patiently—waiting for Your return. It didn’t happen this year…will it happen next year? Do my comments come across as complaints?

Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord's return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen. You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near. Don't grumble about each other, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. For look—the Judge is standing at the door! James 5:7-9

Meditate. Consider what it means to grumble or complain.

Are your problems like
dandelions in your life?
Do you complain about them?

Are you complaining or grumbling?

Are things not going according to your plan…to meet your expectations? Your plans? What about God’s plans…His will? Are you checking your “list” to see if it is in agreement with God’s will…with His plans? James tells us that the Judge is Jesus. Paul declared the same thing.

And this is the message I proclaim—that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone's secret life. Romans 2:16

Complaining is rebellion—that is disobeying God. Jesus wants to be diligent and turn from our indifference (Revelation 3:19). Is complaining or grumbling an indifference? Could it be an indifference to God—not being honest with Him, with yourself? Remember God know everything about us. We can’t hide anything from Him. I chose from now on not to grumble or complain—but I can’t do that on my own—only by God’s grace.

What about you? What choice will you make if you feel the need to grumble or complain?

Verse of Salvation ~ I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference. Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne. Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches." Revelation 3:19-22 (Words of Jesus.)
