Work Ethic?

Prayer – Lord Jesus, I want to be like You. You were always fair, just, compassionate, humble, and honest. As a carpenter, or stone mason, I imagine that You were known for Your devotion to excellent work, obeying Your bosses by not shorting them with lazy, shotty work efforts. You served others—may I show my love for You and for others by the work I do serving You and the people around me.

Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your reverent fear of the Lord. Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ. But if you do what is wrong, you will be paid back for the wrong you have done. For God has no favorites. Colossians 3:22-25 (Underlined for emphasis.)

Meditate on serving others.

How’s your work ethic? Paul directs the Colossians to work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Would you work any differently for some person or organization than you would for Jesus Christ Himself? Essentially, what is your work ethic? There are examples of working for the Lord in the Old and New Testaments. (Underlined for emphasis.)

Model of the Temple in Jerusalem.
Israel.
Then David continued, "Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don't be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. He will see to it that all the work related to the Temple of the LORD is finished correctly.” 1 Chronicles 28:20

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. 1 Corinthians 15:58

Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Ephesians 6:7

What kind of work do you do? Is it worthy of the Lord…or can it be used to honor God? Do you do it passionately and intentionally finish what you start? Everything we do is by choice… decisions for or against particular alternatives. Life is what we make it, so make your decisions with ethical outcomes with which you can be pleased. Note that no matter what you do...God has no favorites.

Verse of Salvation ~ Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. Philippians 2:12-13
