Can You Imagine What God Has Prepared?

Prayer – Lord Jesus, I am excited anticipating Heaven. What will it look like? Ultimately, what will we eat there? Since You ate food after Your resurrection, we can be sure that we will eat when we are resurrected, too. Is all this mystery about Heaven part of God’s plan?

No cobblestones as in Jerusalem now.
In the New Jerusalem
we will praise and dance...
on a street of gold.

Yet when I am among mature believers, I do speak with words of wisdom, but not the kind of wisdom that belongs to this world or to the rulers of this world, who are soon forgotten. No, the wisdom we speak of is the mystery of God—his plan that was previously hidden, even though he made it for our ultimate glory before the world began. But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord. That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him." 1 Corinthians 2:6-9 NLT

Meditate. Consider God’s plan.

No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him." Isaiah 64:4 When I’ve read that verse, I think about what God has prepared for us…what Jesus promised to prepare for us—a place in Heaven. We can’t see what Heaven looks like—and it hasn’t been described in detail in the Bible, although Revelation 21 describes the city of New Jerusalem that comes down out of Heaven. I’ve always been impressed that there will be streets of gold as described by John.

So he took me in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and he showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God. It shone with the glory of God and sparkled like a precious stone--like jasper as clear as crystal. The city wall was broad and high, with twelve gates guarded by twelve angels. And the names of the twelve tribes of Israel were written on the gates. ... The wall was made of jasper, and the city was pure gold, as clear as glass. ... The twelve gates were made of pearls—each gate from a single pearl! And the main street was pure gold, as clear as glass. Revelation 21:10-12, 18, 21 NLT

Heaven will be a wonderful place. It is a favorite topic among some mature believers—as well as salvation, God’s plan—and the wisdom and obedience of the Lord Jesus Christ. One topic that some Christians are enthralled with is the end times and the return of Jesus. It will happen. Many say we are in the end times and that the Rapture is eminent—but it could be months or even years before that happens. The conditions of world right now are ripe for a major change to occur. What do you believe will happen? Are you searching God’s word for end times insights? Have you made the choice to follow Jesus—to accept Him as your Savior? Do you see yourself walking down the main street of the New Jerusalem on a street of gold? The choice is yours.

Verse of Salvation ~ After this, I heard what sounded like a vast crowd in heaven shouting, "Praise the LORD! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God. Revelation 19:1 NLT

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table

Thinking of heavenly food? Will Heavenly Hash—also known as Glorified Rice—be served in Heaven?

Lots of family and friends love it especially at Thanksgiving or for potlucks.

Heavenly Hash

¾ cup uncooked rice cooked in 1½ water (should yield 1½ cups cooked rice) – cook the day before or cool before making this recipe

2 cups crushed pineapple, drained

1 (10 oz) package miniature marshmallows

1 (4 oz) jar maraschino cherries, halved, plus 1 Tbsp cherry juice

1 cup heavy cream, whipped

½ cup powdered sugar, or less to taste

Mix cooled rice with pineapple, cherries and cherry juice. Fold the sugar into the whipped cream. Add to the rice and fruit mixture. Chill four hours or overnight. Like many foods, this gets better with age, but eat it up in three days. It can be used as a salad or a dessert. Enjoy. For variation, some people like to use peaches or canned mixed fruit instead of pineapple.
