Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to
obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning
either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything
you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and
night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you
prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous!
Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever
you go. Joshua 1:7-9
God promises over and over to be with us.
He told Joshua that He’d be with him…wherever he went. He promised that in
Deuteronomy and it is repeated again in Hebrews 13:5. Jesus told us that He
would be with us until the end of the age in Matthew 28:20. What a promise!
Even though God is with us, He expects us,
like Joshua, to be strong and courageous. Very courageous. For Joshua that
meant facing battles against people who inhabited their Promised Land. God was
with them—but those battles still required courage. What requires courage of us
today?
·
Driving in increasingly
heavy traffic—at what seems like breakneck speeds.
·
Crossing the street—even
in a crosswalk.
·
Visiting large cities
where there are gangs hanging around on the streets. In cases like that, we
must choose carefully where we go and what we do.
·
Facing surgery or a
medical treatment.
·
Confronting a teen,
other family member, or a friend with a behavior issue.
·
Standing up for what is
right in front of your co-workers, family and friends.
·
Standing before God—when
you know you’ve made a poor choice.
Be strong and courageous. God expects us to
follow His commands—and do what is right. Keep on studying His word—so you know
what is right—what He expects of you. Meditate on it and obey it. Then—as God
promised—you will prosper. Are you being brave and courageous?
Prayer
~ Lord God, I know that You are always with me, and expect me to be strong and
courageous. Give me that strength when I feel weak. Fill me with Your power and
love…always.
