Don’t Let Your Devotion Become Corrupted

But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent. 2 Corinthians 11:3 NLT

When a person is devoted to someone or something they align and focus their personal desires, plans, and hopes to that person, thing or idea. When devotion is to God it includes worship of God. Paul was apprehensive about the level of devotion that the new believers in Corinth were experiencing. He could tell—probably by his discerning character—that those people were likely to be deceived by Satan and fall into his trap of corruption. Likewise Paul is warning young Christians today that we should not be like Eve and be deceived by some evil influence—and similarly eat some apple. Paul just wanted these Christians to stay devoted to God…to stay pure to God. Purity…holiness unto the Lord. What better goal is there in life?

Training Tip – Talk to your family about to what they are devoted. Small children may be devoted to a particular toy, a TV or movie show character, or even a person like their parents or a friend. Older children may be devoted to music, sports or players, friends, movie idols, or internet games. Guide the discussion to encourage them to show how one can be devoted to God. As usual being a good example of devotion to God is the key.

Prayer - Now may You, God the Father and Jesus our Lord, direct our way and cause us to increase and abound in love for one another, and for all people, so that You may establish our hearts without blame in holiness before You when at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints. (From 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13)
