The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus' mother told him, "They have no more wine." "Dear woman, that's not our problem," Jesus replied. "My time has not yet come." But his mother told the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told the servants, "Fill the jars with water." When the jars had been filled, he said, "Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies." So the servants followed his instructions. When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. "A host always serves the best wine first," he said. "Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!" This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him. After the wedding he went to Capernaum for a few days with his mother, his brothers, and his disciples. John 2:1-12
My
time has not yet come.
That is what Jesus declared—but His Mom told the servants just what to do. And
they did. It was the best wine of the evening! It was an amazing amount in the
six stone water jars, nearly one-hundred eighty gallons of wine. This
miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory.
First miracle! And his disciples believed in him. What would it take for
others to believe in Jesus now? Water changed into wine?
The
disciples that He had called just the day before were there at the wedding including
Andrew, Simon, Nathanael, Philip, and possibly James and John. His glory was
revealed to the disciples, the wedding party, the region where the wedding was
held, and eventually the world. The disciples believed in Jesus—in His mercy
and power. He is the Son of God. Other disciples were chosen later.
Jesus’
time had come. His ministry had begun. Water turned to wine.
Prayer
– Lord Jesus, thank you for Your dedication to mankind. Your ministry started
with water changed to wine and continued until…water was drained from Your body
on the cross…and even until today! Your mercy, compassion, power, and love
continue always.
Verse
of Salvation ~ See, God has come to save me. I will trust in him and not be
afraid. The LORD GOD is my strength and my song; he has given me victory."
With joy you will drink deeply from the fountain of salvation! Isaiah 12:2-3
