Baptized by the Holy Spirit

The Lamb of God
Sacrificed for our sins.
Can you testify to this in your life?
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! He is the one I was talking about when I said, 'A man is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.' I did not recognize him as the Messiah, but I have been baptizing with water so that he might be revealed to Israel." Then John testified, "I saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and resting upon him. I didn't know he was the one, but when God sent me to baptize with water, he told me, 'The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.' I saw this happen to Jesus, so I testify that he is the Chosen One of God." John 1:29-34

Meditate. Consider God’s guidance in scripture.

Jesus was baptized with water. John told us that Jesus was the Chosen One of God and that He would baptize with the Holy Spirit. What does it mean to be baptized with the Holy Spirit?

When a person repents of their sins and accepts Jesus Christ as their Savior, they become indwelt by the Holy Spirit, filled with the Holy Spirit. That is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It is an experience that everyone who believes experiences, whether they realize it or not. As Christians, we are all part of the body of Christ.

The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:12-13

Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus, encouraging Christians to be united in the body of Christ and the Spirit.

Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father, who is over all and in all and living through all. Ephesians 4:3-6

One baptism.

John the Baptist testified that he knew Jesus. When he baptized Jesus, he knew that He was the Chosen One of God because he saw the Spirit descend and rest on the one who would baptize with the Holy Spirit. That would be Jesus, whom John had just baptized.

Prayer – Lord Jesus, it is amazing that John the Baptist recognized You as the Chosen One. It must have been exciting for him to see the Holy Spirit, in the form of a dove, coming down on Him. God had a plan…and He still does. It will be exhilarating watching it unfold. Will it be soon?

Verse of Salvation ~ As for us, we can't help but thank God for you, dear brothers and sisters loved by the Lord. We are always thankful that God chose you to be among the first to experience salvation—a salvation that came through the Spirit who makes you holy and through your belief in the truth. 2 Thessalonians 2:13
