Are You Keeping Quiet?

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops. James 5:16-18

Meditate. Read God’s word and listen to what He is saying.

Keep Quiet!
These fish aren't confessing their sins...
to each other or you.
You probably want to keep quiet about any sins in your life…I do. I don’t want to broadcast them to my family and friends. Someone might tell and what if others started gossiping about me? Ugh! No, I’ll keep quiet and only tell God—and He knows already. He knows everything. But James tells us to…Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. Healed. Jesus does that. Solomon writes about the importance of confession in Proverbs.

People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy. Proverbs 28:13

Do you want to prosper—physically or spiritually? David mentions the consequences of confession, or lack of it, in his Psalms.

When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. ... Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, "I will confess my rebellion to the LORD." And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Psalm 32:3, 5

Guilt is gone. Earnest prayer prevails.

Prayer – Lord God, I admit that I have sinned—and I thank You for providing me with a friend with whom I can confess my sin confidentially. I do feel better already—physically and spiritually. No more groaning. Just as John wrote…But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. 1 John 1:9

Verse of Salvation ~ Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my Savior and my God! Psalm 43:5
