Who gets the last laugh?
It
is good to know that God has a sense of humor…the Lord just laughs. But
look at what He is laughing at in this passage. He is laughing at the fools who
are wickedly plotting against the godly.Remember when...
God had a donkey speak?
Was He laughing?
Are fools like this donkey?
Does that surprise
you? God laughs? Jesus expressed joy? I don’t think I want to have God laughing
AT me…although laughing with me would be great. I enjoy being around people
with a sense of humor…and having a good laugh.
-
But
the one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them. Psalm 2:4
-
When
you arise, O Lord, you will laugh at their silly ideas as a person laughs at
dreams in the morning. Psalm
73:20
-
At
that same time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, and he said,
"O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things
from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the
childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way.” Luke 10:21
Note the verse in our
focus verses today…Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait patiently
for him to act. God wants us to stop and be quiet before Him. Stop
what you are doing…meditate on His word. Focus on who He is, His
characteristics and His influence in your life. He will be honored by every
nation. Right now, there are certainly some nations that are not honoring
Him…and I’m sure that makes Him angry. He deserves our love and respect. He
certainly is not getting that from some groups in the United States. No worship
allowed. How is that honoring God? No matter where we are or whatever is going
on anywhere in the world, what we need to do daily is to…be still in the presence
of the Lord.
"Be
still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be
honored throughout the world." Psalm 46:10
Commit
everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you. He will make
your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine
like the noonday sun. Be still in the presence of the LORD, and wait
patiently for him to act. Don't worry about evil people who prosper or fret
about their wicked schemes. Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose
your temper—it only leads to harm. For the wicked will be destroyed, but those
who trust in the LORD will possess the land. ...The wicked plot against the
godly; they snarl at them in defiance. But the Lord just laughs, for he sees
their day of judgment coming. Psalm 37:5-9, 12-13 (Underlined for emphasis.)
Prayer
– Lord God, I come before You with Your peace in my heart and quietly honor You
right now for You are my Creator, my Savior, my Lord and my God—all powerful
and omniscient. I praise You with all of my heart. soul, mind and strength. In
that Day of Judgment, Lord, I will be covered by Your blood, Jesus. Thank you
for going to the cross for me—for being that unblemished sacrifice required to
blot out the sins of the world…the sins of believers.
Meditate. Smile. The Lord maybe laughing.
Verse
of Salvation ~ All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by
his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised
Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a
priceless inheritance--an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and
undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And through your faith, God is
protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to
be revealed on the last day for all to see. So be truly glad. There is
wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little
while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as
fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere
gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you
much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the
whole world. You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do
not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible
joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:3-9 (underlined for
emphasis.)
