Were You Obedient to Your Parents?

Prayer – Lord Jesus, I seek first a kingdom relationship with You and with our Heavenly Father, to live in an obedient and righteous way that is pleasing to You (Matthew 6:33).

While Jesus was here on earth, he offered prayers and pleadings, with a loud cry and tears, to the one who could rescue him from death. And God heard his prayers because of his deep reverence for God. Even though Jesus was God's Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect High Priest, and he became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey himHebrews 5:7-9

Meditate on obedience.

Were you obedient to your parents?

A Canadian goose teaching obedience.
Jesus was the ultimate example of obedience to His Father. The author of Hebrews states that Jesus learned obedience from the things he suffered. I think that Jesus’ obedience was initially demonstrated when He first came as a baby human to Bethlehem. His submission continued as He grew and was found in the Temple as a twelve-year old, then as He was baptized, as He was tempted by Satan, as He often spent time in prayer, and in His ministry with His twelve disciples and other followers. Jesus was continually obedient showing respect to His Father—all the way to the cross and then in the resurrection. Without His obedience we would have no salvation. Our response to His sacrifice should be our obedience. There is no greater way for us to show our respect for God—the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—than for us to obey Him. Our obedience to Jesus is noted to be the source of our eternal salvation.

Are you choosing to obey God?

Verse of Salvation ~ Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, and don't take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. Psalm 51:10-12
