Baptism at the Jordan River - Israel |
Each of these scriptures in Matthew and
Mark is just a little different, as is the similar passage in Acts…but Jesus
Christ’s message to His disciples was basically for them to “Go into the world”
and “make disciples of all the nations.” Go and tell everyone…not just the
Jews. Go everywhere…not just the nation of Israel. Go to the ends of the earth.
And then he told them, "Go into all the
world and preach the Good News to everyone. Anyone who believes and is baptized
will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. These
miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in
my name, and they will speak in new languages. They will be able to handle
snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won't hurt them.
They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be
healed." When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken
up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God's right hand. Mark
16:15-19
“But you will receive power when the Holy
Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me
everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the
earth.” Acts 1:8
Does it sometimes seem like the end of the
earth to cross the street or to turn to someone in a check-out line at the
store…and tell them about Jesus? Talking about the weather…or an upcoming
holiday is always a good excuse to bring up Jesus…the creator of the universe—and
thus the creator of our weather. Being aware of the emotional state of others is
often made possible by the Holy Spirit. Pay attention. Sometimes people will be
open about events in their lives…like a grandmother who just had a stroke…that
will give you an opportunity to pray for them—right then and there. Even
remarking that someone seems especially happy can open the conversation to an
opportunity to praise the Lord. Be the eyes, ears, hand and feet of Jesus. Be
ready to serve, assist, pray or rejoice. That is what our life in Christ is all
about. Obedience.
Prayer
~ Dear Jesus—You are the I AM that spoke to Moses and sent Him to help your
people in Egypt. Help us to be eyes, ears, hands and feet today. There are so
many who need a loving touch or word…and we are here to honor You and do what
we can to serve You by serving others. We love You…and those You have put here
in our midst.
