Since God in His wisdom saw to it
that the world would never know Him through human wisdom, He has used our
foolish preaching to save those who believe. It is foolish to the Jews, who ask
for signs from heaven. And it is foolish to the Greeks, who seek human wisdom.
So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the
Gentiles say it's all nonsense. 1 Corinthians 1:21-23
Are you looking for a sign from heaven…or
do you feel that Christ’s death and resurrection are nonsense? Think again…and
then ask God for His wisdom and insight so that you will understand more about
Him. It is hard for us to comprehend the depth of God’s love for us—giving up
His Son as a sacrifice for our sin. And why? What does Jesus’ crucifixion have
to do with my sin—my mistakes and attitudes? The way I understand it, the
sacrifice of Jesus has everything to do with the forgiveness of my sin—my very
sinful nature. When Adam and Eve first sinned God sacrificed animals, using
their skins to “cover” Adam and Eve’s naked bodies and their sin. Likewise,
Jesus’ sacrifice “covers” my sin. It is neither offensive or nonsense.
Prayer
~ Lord, give me wisdom to understand more of You—and to share, not so much “preach,”
with others about the truth of Jesus’ sacrifice—His crucifixion—and the joy of
His resurrection. May that joy not be foolishness or nonsense to anyone—but may
they grasp the importance of His sacrifice and believe in the impact it makes
in their own lives.
