The story of
Esther occurs during the reign of King Ahasuerus (Hebrew form of his name) who
was also known as King Xerxes I (Greek form). This king ruled from 486 to 465
BC in Babylon during the Meso-Persian Empire. He actually ruled a large part of
the known world, from India to Ethiopia with his palace is Susa, 150 miles
north of the Persian Gulf. Esther was a Jewish orphan living in Susa with her
cousin Mordecai.
The author of
this book is an unknown Jew who must have been well acquainted with Esther and
Mordecai to have known the details of the story. The best known verse and
portion frequently quoted from this book is Esther 4:14, …for such a time as this…. You may be where you are and have
influence with particular people for just such a time as this also.
There is no such
thing as a coincidence. God has a plan and hopefully you know Him and are
called to be part of His family…for such a time as this. Let’s spend the next
couple of weeks looking at Esther’s life, the feast that she had prepared—and the
continual feast that we have in God’s word. Blessings…as we study God’s Word
together.
Lord Jesus—help us to see your plan for our
lives and to respond as Esther did in obedience.
