December 9 - Find Peace in Jesus

Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe? Behold, an hour is coming, and has already come, for you to be scattered, each to his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world." John 16:31-33

What does it mean to “overcome the world? Another set of verses addresses this. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith. Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? - 1 John 5:3-5

That is very reassuring scripture. Faith. Faith in Jesus as the Son of God gives us victory. Victory over sin and all its baggage—the selfishness and evil that the world conjures up to make life unhappy and miserable. Imagine how those disciples felt when they were “scattered, each to his own home” and Jesus was left hanging there alone on the cross. At least He felt ALONE. He even felt that God the Father had forsaken Him. That is why the scripture in Deuteronomy 31:6, that is repeated in Hebrews 13:5, is so special to me. God has promised to never leave us or forsake us. Can you feel His loving arms around you even now?

Heavenly Father—wrap Your loving arms around those who are feeling loss right now…especially the Dodds family. May they feel Your presence and once again find peace in their hearts in Jesus.
