What is Judgment?

Meditate. Focus on God’s Word and apply it to your life.

But the LORD reigns forever, executing judgment from his throne. He will judge the world with justice and rule the nations with fairness. The LORD is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O LORD, do not abandon those who search for you. Psalm 9:7-10 (Underlined for emphasis.)

What does it mean to judge? What is judgment? Who will judge the world?

Judging is evaluating, assessing or appraising how one measures up to a standard…to God’s standards. The Judgment of the Bible is executed from God’s Throne in Heaven. He will judge the world. No one will be ignored.

God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:17

Even Gentiles, who do not have God's written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. They demonstrate that God's law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. And this is the message I proclaim—that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone's secret life. Romans 2:14-16

I solemnly urge you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus, who will someday judge the living and the dead when he appears to set up his Kingdom: Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching. 2 Timothy 4:1-2 (Underlined for emphasis.)

Although Jesus was not sent primarily as a Judge, that is part of His persona. He is Creator, Redeemer, Savior…and someday Judge. Everyone will be judged. No one will be ignored, abandoned, or forgotten. Everyone throughout all time, living and dead will be judged. Everyone’s thoughts, words and deeds will be evident before God. Jesus gives us an illustration in Bible when He was speaking to His disciples on the Mount of Olives. He compares sheep as righteous people and goats as the unrighteous people in the Final Judgment.

But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit upon his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered in his presence, and he will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep at his right hand and the goats at his left. Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world.' ... And they (unrighteous) will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life. Matthew 25:31-34, 46

This illustration tells us that for one, there will be a final judgment. That one separates the sheep and the goats. Where will you stand? Look at your actions and attitudes. Are you more like a sheep or a goat? Are you willing to follow Jesus and live right before Him? That’s a righteous life.

Prayer ~ Lord God, I want to live to please You, in my thoughts, words, and actions. May my family and friends seek to know You more each day…and choose right living to please You.

No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. Hebrews 12:11

Verse of Salvation ~ Riches won't help on the day of judgment, but right living can save you from death. Proverbs 11:4
