Abandoned?

My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away when I groan for help? Every day I call to you, my God, but you do not answer. Every night you hear my voice, but I find no relief. Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. Psalm 22:1-3

Crucifix at the Holy Family Shrine
near Ashland, Nebraska
David wrote this Psalm which has been said to prophesy Jesus’ words as He hung on the Cross. Abandoned.
At noon, darkness fell across the whole land until three o'clock. At about three o'clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?"  which means "My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?" Matthew 27:45-46.

Have you ever felt abandoned, rejected, or unloved and groaned for God’s help? I have. I was very distressed after my sister and her family were killed in a domestic violence incident back in 1989. My groaning was too deep for words. I felt abandoned by God…and my sister. How could God allow my sister to be taken away…when we were going to grow old together? What kind of a God was He anyway? He’s supposed to be loving. Mom taught us that “God is Love” so how could a loving God allow that to happen? After years of struggling with that I came to accept that God kept His promise to my sister and to me…He will never leave us or forsake us. We won’t be abandoned. He promised….
No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you. Joshua 1:5
Jesus said…Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:20.
No matter what…God loves us. God is love.
We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in His love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. 1 John 4:16.
Jesus obediently took that journey to the Cross. Yet hanging there Jesus felt abandoned…but God the Father was with Him. God turned His back on the sin…not on His Son. We just have to trust Him…to keep His promise.

Prayer ~ Lord God, I understand…I know how much You love us—enough to give Your own Son for us. I put my trust in Your love. You are love, and all who live in love, live in You, and You, O my God, live in them. From 1 John 4:16. This is real love—not that we loved You, God, but that You loved us and sent your Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. 1 John 4:10. Thank You for not abandoning Jesus…or us.

Passover 2018 Begins

"As you go into the city," he (Jesus) told them, "you will see a certain man. Tell him, 'The Teacher says: My time has come, and I will eat the Passover meal with my disciples at your house.'" So the disciples did as Jesus told them and prepared the Passover meal there. ... As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, "Take this and eat it, for this is my body." And he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. He gave it to them and said, "Each of you drink from it, for this is my blood, which confirms the covenant between God and his people. It is poured out as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of many. Mark my words—I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my Father's Kingdom." Then they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives. Matthew 26:18-19, 26-30

Jesus blessed the bread and broke it...
Take eat of it. This is my body--given for you.
Drink of this cup...it is my blood, shed for you.
In the Passover Seder there are four cups of wine, or juice, blessed and drank together with those at the celebration. There is a time where there are three pieces of unleavened bread put in a special bag with three sections, representing the Holy Trinity to Messianic Jews. During the Seder the matzoh in the center section of that bag, symbolizing Jesus Christ, is broken and hidden away in another part of the home. Then later after the meal the children go look for that bread wrapped in a linen cloth. It is brought back, thus resurrected, to the family table—and the child who found it is given a reward. Everyone at the table is given a small piece of that unleavened bread—that has been pierced, broken, buried, and resurrected—like Jesus—and just as Jesus blessed the unleavened bread during the Last Supper, this matzoh is blessed and eaten together with the third cup of wine (or grape juice). This is the same part of the Passover Meal in which Jesus instituted what we call Communion. He spoke of the bread as His body…broken for us, and the cup as His blood shed for us for the remission of sin.
He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, "This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me." After supper he took another cup of wine and said, "This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you." Luke 22:19-20
Do this to remember me. That is what Jesus said…and this time of the Passover is the ideal time to focus on His sacrifice, His love, His promise to us and on the hope that He provides for our redemption in the future. Do you trust Jesus to keep His promise? Do you trust Him with your life—your eternal life?

Prayer ~ Father, I thank you for giving us Your Son, Jesus Christ, to give His life for us—hanging there on the Cross. A sacrifice once for all. I trust Jesus with my eternal life and willingly and humbly take up my cross to follow Him. May all that I think, say and do bring glory and honor to Jesus…and to You.

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table
One of the elements of the Passover Meal is Charoset—an apple and walnut mixture that represents the mortar that held together the bricks the Israelite slaves made during their captivity in Egypt. It is a tasty mixture that is eaten with matzoh and horseradish sauce.

Charoset
2 crisp apples (1 sweet such as Gala and 1 tart such as Granny Smith), cored and finely chopped
1/2 cup walnuts, heat for a few minutes to take away the natural bitterness, then cool and chop finely
1/2 cup raisins (This is a Turkish addition to the dish.)
½ cup fresh orange juice
2 tsp honey
1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest
1/2 tsp cinnamon, or to taste
Dash of kosher salt, if desired
Combine the chopped nuts, apples, raisins and orange juice. Then stir in the honey, lemon zest, cinnamon, and salt. Cover and let sit for at least 4 hours. Serves 8-10.
Serve with matzoh bread during the Sedar and enjoy it during the meal, if desired.

Jesus Knew What Would Happen. Listen.

As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, He took the twelve disciples aside privately and told them what was going to happen to Him. "Listen," He said, "we're going up to Jerusalem, where the Son of Man will be betrayed to the leading priests and the teachers of religious law. They will sentence Him to die. Then they will hand Him over to the Romans to be mocked, flogged with a whip, and crucified. But on the third day He will be raised from the dead." Matthew 20:17-19

Cross from Medjugorje
Depicting Christ's life, death and resurrection.
Closer and closer. Jesus on His final trip to Jerusalem…to the Cross. He knew just what was going to happen. Betrayal. Death sentence. Mocking. Flogging. Humiliation. Crucifixion. Pain. Agony. Death of His human body. And the end of the story…Resurrection.

Listen. That is what Jesus told His disciples. He told them what was going to happen to Him. Their job was to listen. Did they hear what He said? Do we hear what He said…what He is saying to us today? Listen. He told them over and over…listen.
-    Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand! Matthew 11:15.
-    Then Jesus called to the crowd to come and hear. "All of you listen," he said, "and try to understand." Mark 7:14.
-    But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Luke 6:27.
-    I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life. John 5:24.

Are you listening? Do you believe in God…in Jesus as your own Savior? Trust Him. Seek Him with all your heart and you will find Him.

Prayer ~ Lord God, I am listening to Your Word…to Your voice calling me to obedience. May all that I think, say and do bring You honor and glory.

How Do You Invest Your Talents?

The crowd was listening to everything Jesus said. And because he was nearing Jerusalem, he told them a story to correct the impression that the Kingdom of God would begin right away. He said, "A nobleman was called away to a distant empire to be crowned king and then return. Before he left, he called together ten of his servants and divided among them ten pounds of silver, saying, 'Invest this for me while I am gone.' But his people hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, 'We do not want him to be our king.' "After he was crowned king, he returned and called in the servants to whom he had given the money. He wanted to find out what their profits were. The first servant reported, 'Master, I invested your money and made ten times the original amount!' "'Well done!' the king exclaimed. 'You are a good servant. You have been faithful with the little I entrusted to you, so you will be governor of ten cities as your reward.' "The next servant reported, 'Master, I invested your money and made five times the original amount.' "'Well done!' the king said. 'You will be governor over five cities.' "But the third servant brought back only the original amount of money and said, 'Master, I hid your money and kept it safe. I was afraid because you are a hard man to deal with, taking what isn't yours and harvesting crops you didn't plant.' "'You wicked servant!' the king roared. ‘Your own words condemn you. If you knew that I'm a hard man who takes what isn't mine and harvests crops I didn't plant, why didn't you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.' "Then, turning to the others standing nearby, the king ordered, 'Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one who has ten pounds.' "'But, master,' they said, 'he already has ten pounds!' "'Yes,' the king replied, 'and to those who use well what they are given, even more will be given. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away. And as for these enemies of mine who didn't want me to be their king—bring them in and execute them right here in front of me.'" After telling this story, Jesus went on toward Jerusalem, walking ahead of his disciples. Luke 19:11-28

Plainly Jesus was telling the people at Zaccheus’ home that talents are made to be used. Everything we have is given to us—by God to be used for Him. If we read between the lines we know that this parable is for us too…and it is not just about money. The story was also meant to convey the concept that Jesus was not going to be the political savior for whom the Israelites were hoping. Jesus’ Kingdom is a spiritual one. Were His enemies the Pharisees or others in the group gathered there around Zaccheus’ table? Do you think it harsh that the “king” in the illustration executed his enemies?

Are you like one of those servants in the story? Who is Jesus to you?

Prayer –Jesus, open our eyes and hearts that we would understand the deeper meanings of Your parables for they are applicable even today for us. Thank You that You were obedient and that You fulfilled Your Father’s promise to be the sacrificial lamb for mankind. Plainly, it was necessary—although it was not what I would have chosen for You…but it was God the Father’s plan and You followed it—to Jerusalem and the cross. For us.

Where Will Your Party End?

A faithful, sensible servant is one to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his other household servants and feeding them. If the master returns and finds that the servant has done a good job, there will be a reward. I tell you the truth, the master will put that servant in charge of all he owns. But what if the servant is evil and thinks, 'My master won't be back for a while,' and he begins beating the other servants, partying, and getting drunk? The master will return unannounced and unexpected, and he will cut the servant to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 24:45-51

Gnashing of teeth and crying? Where will that be? That describes what will happen in hell—not heaven. What did someone do to deserve that? He took his eyes off the Master, what He had said to do…the responsibilities assigned…and let his own wicked desires take hold. Partying isn’t bad…unless it leads to drunken disorder and immoral behavior.

Jesus liked to party. He went to lots of people’s homes for dinner and dined with sinful people. Look at the account of sinner and tax collector Zacchaeus. More happened at the dinner than we think of when we remember that little man who climbed up in a tree to see our Lord.
Jesus was coming near to Jerusalem.
When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. "Zacchaeus!" he said. "Quick, come down! I must be a guest in your home today." Zacchaeus quickly climbed down and took Jesus to his house in great excitement and joy. But the people were displeased. "He has gone to be the guest of a notorious sinner," they grumbled. Meanwhile, Zacchaeus stood before the Lord and said, "I will give half my wealth to the poor, Lord, and if I have cheated people on their taxes, I will give them back four times as much!" Jesus responded, "Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost." The crowd was listening to everything Jesus said. And because he was nearing Jerusalem, he told them a story to correct the impression that the Kingdom of God would begin right away. Luke 19:5-11.
Is that parable one that we think of… to correct the impression that the Kingdom of God would begin right away. We’ll take a look at it tomorrow.

For today. Clean house. Get the leaven out and get ready for a joyous party feast at Passover.

Prayer ~ Jesus, We must acknowledge You as our Lord and Savior…so that You will acknowledge us before Your Heavenly Father one day as we enjoy a heavenly banquet with You.

An Unexpected Thief

Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would keep watch and not permit his house to be broken into. You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected. Matthew 24:43-44

A Blue Door...to ward off evil in Israel.
Thieves are never expected. It isn’t like they are invited over. One of my brothers’ home has been broken into several times. He has a great security system now…and since he is retired he is home more often so he has been there to prevent intruders. A couple of times people have come to his door supposedly looking for someone else—but they were really “casing the joint” to see if anyone was home. They didn’t send their colleagues in to do their “snatch and go” since someone was there…they just went on to another unsuspecting, empty home. Empty. No one home. Is your heart that way? Empty? Are you ready for Christ to return? This scripture passage tells us the Son of Man…Jesus…will come when least expected.  Will He find your heart empty of His love and grace? Who is Jesus to you?

Jesus is the Son of God…He is God incarnate. He said… "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6. Believe in Jesus. He came to give His life for the salvation of all mankind.  Do you believe? Are you ready? Who is at your door...Jesus or a thief?

Prayer ~ I praise You, Jesus, for Your willingness to sacrifice Your life for me…for my family, friends and all mankind. Your mercy is gracious and so appreciated.

Palm Sunday—Will Christ Return Today?

Then (At the time of the Coming of the Son of Man) there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left. Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. Matthew 24:40-42 NASB

New Life
When Christ calls the believers…where will you be? In the field, at work, in your home, sleeping? Will you be the one taken up or left behind? The decision is yours. You get to choose…but it has to be BEFORE Christ returns. Once the Christians start rising…beginning with the dead first…it will be too late. Choose now with whom you will spend eternity. Jesus in Heaven…or into the pit of despair in Hell with Satan?
Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
Like Joshua…choose this day whom you will serve. I choose to serve the Lord…forever.
But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD. Joshua 24:15

Prayer ~ Thank You Lord, for being my Savior. Every day until You return…or until I die…help me to live by Your glorious standard in a way that pleases You in my every thought, word and action.

No One Know—Except the Father

However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah's day. In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat. People didn't realize what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes. Matthew 24:36-39

Replica of Noah's Ark - near Amsterdam
Will you be swept away...or gathered into safety?
Will you be swept away or gathered up? Swept away in your own tears for not yielding to the love of Jesus…for not submitting yourself to putting Jesus first in your life? Or gathered up into the arms of our sweet Jesus—in the air? Will that be like birds flying—or floating upwards like bubbles?

Only God knows the hour or the day…but Jesus has warned to watch for signs and to be ready. What does it mean to “be ready?” Are your bags packed? Ridiculous. We won’t need to take anything with us to heaven? Jesus told the people of Judea not to turn back…not to go back to get their coats. So if you are prayed up, served well, and shared about the Kingdom of God at every opportunity…then what else can you do?
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33
Watch and wait—with no anxiety…just peace. God will do the rest.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6 NASB
…May grace and peace be yours in the fullest measure. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:2-5 NASB

Prayer ~ Lord Jesus, I am grateful for Your protection and am patiently awaiting Your return. Thank you for being the ultimate sacrifice for all mankind. May we clearly hear Your voice for Your very words give life, strength and spiritual healing.

Jesus is the Truth

Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near. In the same way, when you see all these things, you can know his return is very near, right at the door. I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene until all these things take place. Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear. Matthew 24:32-35

Lilac trees in bloom...Spring.
This is Spring. Trees are budding and leaves are beginning to show. The days are cool…but here in the Tri-Cities of Washington State we will be in the 70’s (degrees F) next week. The leaves on the trees will really begin to show with that heat. Summer is near…but in the southern hemispheres winter is approaching. Do they read and focus on this scripture the same way…at the same time…that we do in the northern hemisphere? Jesus wasn’t concerned about the season…but about the truth of the political situations, epic natural disasters, and deception that would warn people of His second coming…of the rapture and His return. He kept repeating…don’t be deceived. That is the same message for today. Open your eyes—see what is happening in the world and don’t allow yourselves to be duped and misled. Discern what is the truth. Live for today...but live for Jesus.

Jesus never lied…He IS the Truth.
Jesus told him (His disciple, Thomas), "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
Keep your eyes on Jesus. Keep your mind free from fear—for the deceiver wants to defeat you and cause you to be afraid. Continue to see Jesus first in your life.

Prayer ~ Jesus…I seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and with Your help I hope to live righteously, knowing that You will give me everything I need. I’m not worried about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today's trouble is enough for today. Matthew 6:33-34.

Friday’s Feast at the King’s Table
Passover is only a week away. Time to plan your Passover menu and guest list. Of course the most important things to have on hand are horseradish, parsley, roasted eggs, apples and raisins, and unleavened bread…time to clean out the leaven in your home. The rest of the meal will be up to your preference—but make it special for your family and guests. Please blog along and share what you would like to have on your Passover menu and the special things that you will do to celebrate Passover and Resurrection Sunday.

Anguish or Adoration?

Immediately after the anguish of those days, the sun will be darkened, the moon will give no light, the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. And then at last, the sign that the Son of Man is coming will appear in the heavens, there will be deep mourning among all the peoples of the earth. And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world—from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven. Matthew 24:29-31

Clouds at Scootney Reservoir, near Othello, Washington
Anguish…some translations give that word as “tribulation” –but whatever it will not be a pleasant time. Matthew Henry gives us insight in his commentaries that this is Jesus’ Second Coming on the clouds of heaven. He indicates that the sun, moon and stars could represent the Temple, Jerusalem and the cities of Judah. Look at the passage… And they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds.  An angle told Jesus' disciples that Jesus would return in the clouds...just as He left. See Acts 1:11.

Jesus will have great power—not little baby in a manger dependency. He will be in control with commanding authority.

There is always so much variation in prophesy. Be careful to whom you listen for advice—it is best to just trust the Lord and wait for it to happen. Listen for that blast of the trumpet…the mournful sound of the shofar. Jesus will ultimately be gathering His chosen ones from all over the world. That will be truly exciting for those who will see Him face to face and adore Him in person! The people who are left on earth after that point will be in deep mourning because they didn’t choose to follow Jesus—to believe in Him as their Savior.

Where do you stand with the Lord? Do you believe in Jesus as the Son of God, the Lamb of God who was sacrificed for your sins, the risen Savior? If those are not your beliefs, then you may want to do some more searching of the Scriptures. Pray for wisdom and understanding.

Prayer ~ Lord Jesus, help us to hear Your words clearly, and with wisdom to understand. I praise You that You are my Lord and Savior. I look forward to the day when I see You in Heaven—face to face.

Look—There…Don’t Believe It

Then if anyone tells you, 'Look, here is the Messiah,' or 'There he is,' don't believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform great signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God's chosen ones. See, I have warned you about this ahead of time. "So if someone tells you, 'Look, the Messiah is out in the desert,' don't bother to go and look. Or, 'Look, he is hiding here,' don't believe it! For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes. Just as the gathering of vultures shows there is a carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near. Matthew 24:23-28

Rookery at Magnolia Gardens near Charleston SC
Nesting heron and vultures.
Vultures. We saw plenty of those huge birds in South Carolina. Usually there were just one or two soaring high through the air. Sometimes there would be a group of them circling high in the air. Then you knew they’d found some dead animal to feast upon. This same illustration of a great bird—hawk or vulture—finding an easy meal is in the book of Job.
Is it your wisdom that makes the hawk soar and spread its wings toward the south? Is it at your command that the eagle rises to the heights to make its nest? It lives on the cliffs, making its home on a distant, rocky crag. From there it hunts its prey, keeping watch with piercing eyes. Its young gulp down blood. Where there's a carcass, there you'll find it." Job 39:26-30

Like those vultures the false prophets are looking for some easy prey—some gullible individual that they can pull away from God’s path.

Jesus was giving this warning to His disciples…listen up, guys—don’t be deceived. Don’t believe everything you hear. Be careful. There are liars and impersonators out there who would love to lead you astray. I think He was also telling His disciples…and us… that He will not be hiding somewhere. Just like we can see lightning, we’ll be able to see Him when Jesus returns.

Prayer ~ Lord God, I rejoice in hearing Your warning. Help me to be discerning, not gullible and deceived by false prophets. Guide my heart, mind and actions that I would be more loving and to teach others Your words.

Flee to the Hills

The day is coming when you will see what Daniel the prophet spoke about—the sacrilegious object that causes desecration standing in the Holy Place. (Reader, pay attention!) Then those in Judea must flee to the hills. A person out on the deck of a roof must not go down into the house to pack. A person out in the field must not return even to get a coat. How terrible it will be for pregnant women and for nursing mothers in those days. And pray that your flight will not be in winter or on the Sabbath. For there will be greater anguish than at any time since the world began. And it will never be so great again. In fact, unless that time of calamity is shortened, not a single person will survive. But it will be shortened for the sake of God's chosen ones. Matthew 24:15-22

This is not a pleasant portion of scripture. In this passage Jesus is referring to scripture in Daniel (Daniel 9:27, Daniel 11:31) where there was, as predicted, desecration in the Holy Place by the ruler Antiochus Epiphanes. In Daniel 12:11 a future desecration is predicted to occur.
Then I, Daniel, looked and saw two others standing on opposite banks of the river. One of them asked the man dressed in linen, who was now standing above the river, "How long will it be until these shocking events are over?" The man dressed in linen, who was standing above the river, raised both his hands toward heaven and took a solemn oath by the One who lives forever, saying, "It will go on for a time, times, and half a time. When the shattering of the holy people has finally come to an end, all these things will have happened." I heard what he said, but I did not understand what he meant. So I asked, "How will all this finally end, my lord?" But he said, "Go now, Daniel, for what I have said is kept secret and sealed until the time of the end. Many will be purified, cleansed, and refined by these trials. But the wicked will continue in their wickedness, and none of them will understand. Only those who are wise will know what it means. (v.11) From the time the daily sacrifice is stopped and the sacrilegious object that causes desecration is set up to be worshiped, there will be 1,290 days. And blessed are those who wait and remain until the end of the 1,335 days! "As for you, go your way until the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days, you will rise again to receive the inheritance set aside for you." Daniel 12:5-13
Other translations refer to the desecration as the Abomination of Desolation, which is predicted to be done by the Antichrist during middle of the seven years of the Tribulation. Jesus was speaking to the people in the land of Israel…in Judea. Flee to the hills. The 1,290 days is three and a half years—the mid-point in seven years of the predicted length of Tribulation. Jesus was not speaking to His Church, since at that time they will most likely have been raptured--if you believe in that concept…
What I am saying, dear brothers and sisters, is that our physical bodies cannot inherit the Kingdom of God. These dying bodies cannot inherit what will last forever. But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies. Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: "Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?" For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.  1 Corinthians 15:50-58

Clouds over Jerusalem
And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died. We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. So encourage each other with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
These passages refer to the Rapture—the removal of the Church from earth. I look forward to that day. Jesus told His followers to be ready. Are you ready? Come quickly, Lord.

God’s grace on His chosen ones will shorten the length of time, so that they mercifully will not all be lost as they flee to the hills of Judea.

Prayer ~ Lord God, Your plan for Your Church is amazing. As promised, spare Your chosen ones the calamity. Thank You, God, that You give us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. Please continue to give my dear brothers, sisters and me, strength as we work enthusiastically for our Lord, for You know that nothing we do for You Lord is ever useless.

The End Will Come

Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then the end will come. Matthew 24:12-14

The End Will Come. Jesus told His disciples what to expect…and it was recorded for us.
The Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole whole…and then end will come. Is that what you’ve been waiting for?

The one who endures to the end will be saved.
We know from many Old Testament verses that God’s love endures forever.
Praise the LORD! Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever. Psalm 106:1

God’s love endures…but what about the love for God in His followers? God’s love flows through those who love Him…so we can assume that His love will be persistent—a constant presence in our lives. We know that He chooses us…and that we have free will to choose to follow Him and His ways…or to rebelliously follow our own will. So endure. Don’t grow cold. Keep the heat of the Holy Spirit in your heart…and the light of the Lord burning within you. Stay in His Word—sharing the Good News of the Kingdom with others.

Prayer ~ LORD God, You are living among you. You are a mighty savior. I hope that You will take delight in me with gladness. With Your love, You will calm all my fears. You will rejoice over all believers with joyful songs. Zephaniah 3:17

Wars, Famines, Earthquakes...Do You Feel It?

Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come. Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers. And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. And many false prophets will appear and will deceive many people. Matthew 24:7-11

Wars and rumors of wars. Yes. That is happening today. Look at Syria, Afghanistan, Mexico and Iraq where thousands of people were killed in 2017.

People are starving...but we have plenty to eat.
Famines have been part of history for forever here…look at Abraham. God was with him and he had to go through famines. People are starving due to famines right now somewhere on earth. Just look at the news. Have you ever been hungry…truly hungry?

Have you ever experienced an earthquake? I’ve seen the ground swelling—like a wave—and then felt that wave move through our home where we were living in Okinawa. I’ve felt a couple of other tremors—but never experienced a real ground shaking, walls and building falling terrifying earthquake. They happen every day around the world. Check out a website like earthquaketrack.com. There were 85 earthquakes today—of small magnitude, but recordable.

Persecution. Not a word we like to hear any more than wars, famines or earthquakes, but it is a word that affects Christians around the world, daily. When it affects our brothers and sisters in the Lord, it affects us. We are part of the body of Christ. Do you feel hated because you are a follower of Jesus Christ? You may one day soon.

Again Jesus warned His disciples…don’t be deceived. Watch and wait for Jesus—the true Christ to return. Don’t be deceived.

Psalms give us some encouragement and hope.
God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge! A river brings joy to the city of our God, the sacred home of the Most High. God dwells in that city; it cannot be destroyed. From the very break of day, God will protect it. Psalm 46:1-5
We don’t have to fear…
For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. Psalm 84:11

What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Romans 8:31
Trust God…He has a plan and offers salvation to everyone who believes. Salvation from sin…and protection. Believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior. He is the Messiah for Israel and the whole world.

Prayer ~ Lord Jesus, I hear your warning…wars, famines, earthquakes and persecution. But I trust in You for salvation…and protection. I praise You—for You are that true God—the living Messiah—who came to set us free. Thank You.

Misled or Deceived? Don’t Be.

Jesus told them, "Don't let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Messiah.' They will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don't panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won't follow immediately." Matthew 24:4-6

Does this dandelion deceive you?
Old Testament about deception includes this one from a minor prophet, Obadiah. The Edomites were rejoicing over the misfortunes that had come on Jerusalem. As family of Esau, they had a long history of conflict with the Israelites.
All your allies will turn against you. They will help to chase you from your land. They will promise you peace while plotting to deceive and destroy you. Your trusted friends will set traps for you, and you won't even know about it. Obadiah 1:7
I don’t think that Jesus was considering the Edomites and their situation when He warned about deceivers. He also instructed his disciples…don’t let anyone mislead you
Solomon in his wisdom warned…
Violent people mislead their companions, leading them down a harmful path. Proverbs 16:29
Don’t let anyone deceive you.
Watch out…you’ve been warned. Don’t be misled. Don’t be deceived.

No one can snatch you out of God’s hand…if you believe and God is your Father.

Prayer ~ Dear God, bless each of us today as we remember St. Patrick—a shepherd slave who became a Christian believer in Ireland. Like St. Patrick may we continue to seek You, Lord, and be devoted to You in all that we think, say and do.
